After an early morning breakfast, we leave Etosha National Park via the town of Grootfontein to Bushmanland. The San, colloquially also called Bushmen, live in this area. They are the oldest people in Namibia, living in southern Africa for an estimated 20,000 years. The small friendly people traditionally are hunters and gatherers, the women collect fruits, berries and starch-containing onions, while the men go hunting.

The San have a deep understanding of nature and ecology. They are able to distinguish between hundreds of plant species and are known to be excellent trackers. On arrival, the tour guide will meet the local SAN translator for the next day’s departure time and guests will be informed accordingly before or after dinner.

After breakfast, we depart for a full day visit to one of the authentic bushman villages. You will spend this day learning the livelihood of Bushman (SAN) people in their own village. Amidst vegetated, fossil dunes, the Ju/’hoansi! Kung Bushman (sometimes simply called the 'Kung') live, scattered around in small villages.

These are Bushmen of the Kalahari, also known as the San Bushmen. The Bushmen are hunter-gatherers who, for thousands of years, have found their sustenance in the desert with their knowledge and skills. They primarily hunt several species of antelope, but their daily food has always been primarily composed of fruits, berries and roots of the desert. They construct temporary wooden shelters.

After breakfast, we depart heading to Waterberg Plateau. Waterberg means: water fountain, it’s a massive table mountain east of Otjiwarongo in the northern reaches of central Namibia. It is about 50 km long, up to 16 km wide and rises from the plains of the Omaheke, as this part of the Kalahari is known, to a height of up to 200 metres.

This natural barrier often intercepts clouds, causing them to release their moisture. You can opt to join excursions if time permits offered by the lodge to explore the area of this mountain range.

The mountain’s upper layer consists of red sandstone which is porous and absorbs rainwater like a sponge. The base, on the other hand, is an impermeable rock with a slight gradient from west to east. On the south-eastern slope water, therefore, escapes along this layer in the form of several springs - even during the dry season from May until September.

After breakfast, depending on your departure flight we depart to Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport for your outbound flight back home.
